Riverton Retreat
A day on the Chesapeake

Curated

The water, the marsh, and the Shore — arranged for you.

The beauty is the draw. These are the experiences we line up so all you have to do is show up. Add any of them to your stay.

On the Water

A Day with a Waterman

Apr–Oct

Head out at dawn with a real Chesapeake crabber and work the trotline.

Spend a morning on the water with a working waterman — running the trotline for blue crab in summer, learning the rhythm that's shaped this place for generations. You come back with the catch (and a feel for the Bay you can't get any other way).

from $200 / group

Rockfish Charter

Spring & fall

Half- or full-day striped-bass charter with a licensed local captain.

A guided charter for up to six — bait, tackle, and licensing handled. Chase rockfish across the Little Choptank and the open Bay, then bring it home and we'll arrange a chef to cook the catch dockside.

from $600 (up to 6)

Sunset Sail or Pontoon Cruise

May–Oct

Glide out onto the Choptank as the light goes gold.

A captained evening cruise — sailboat or pontoon — timed to the sunset that makes this stretch of the Eastern Shore famous. Bring a bottle; we'll arrange the rest.

from $400 / outing

Guided Crabbing Off the Dock

May–Sep

Chicken necks, lines, and traps — a lesson the kids won't forget.

No boat required. We set you up on your own pier with lines, traps, and the know-how, then you steam what you catch at the waterfront tables. The most hands-on, all-ages way into Chesapeake life.

from $150 / group

IRONMAN Maryland Base Camp

Fall (race week)

Race-week lodging minutes from the Cambridge course, for the whole crew.

Cambridge hosts IRONMAN Maryland every fall, and the swim is in the Choptank right here. Base your athletes and their families at the house — room for fifteen, early breakfasts, a hot tub for tired legs, and a calm waterfront to come home to after a long day on course.

race-week stays

On the Table

Oyster Farm Tour & Tasting

Year-round

Visit a working Choptank oyster farm and taste them straight from the water.

The Choptank is some of the most storied oyster water on the East Coast. Tour a nearby aquaculture farm, learn how a Chesapeake oyster is grown, and taste them as fresh as it gets — right off the float.

from $45 / person

Private Chef Crab Feast

Apr–Oct

Steamed blue crabs and Old Bay at sixteen feet of waterfront table.

The centerpiece of any stay. A private chef brings the bushel, the corn, the Old Bay, and the spread, and sets it all on the waterfront picnic tables. You just show up hungry.

from $85 / person

Nature

Blackwater Refuge & Eagles

Year-round (peak migration fall/winter)

A guided morning in the “Everglades of the North.”

Fifteen minutes away, Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge holds the largest bald-eagle population on the East Coast north of Florida, across a third of Maryland's tidal wetlands. Go with a guide who knows where to look — eagles, herons, migrating geese, and big quiet marsh.

from $300 / group

Wellness

Dock Yoga & Wellness

Year-round

A visiting instructor, the dock at sunrise, water all around.

We arrange a local yoga, breathwork, or sound-bath instructor to come to you — on the dock, on the lawn, or on the screened porch. Add an in-home massage therapist to make it a true reset.

from $150 / session

Culture

Harriet Tubman Byway Tour

Year-round

Stand in the landscape where Tubman was born and led others to freedom.

Harriet Tubman was born in this county. A guided drive of the Underground Railroad Byway — anchored by the visitor center just down Route 16 through Church Creek — turns the marsh and back roads into the most moving history on the Shore.

from $300 / group

Cambridge & RAR Brewing

Year-round

Waterfront dining, the Saturday market, and one of MD's best breweries.

Twenty minutes up the road, downtown Cambridge has a revitalized waterfront, a Saturday market, the maritime museums, and RAR Brewing — a destination beer-maker in an old pool hall. An easy afternoon out, with a driver arranged if you want one.
